Skin Science: How does Atomization increase skincare permeation?

Introducing Skin Science by MOYAL, where we’ll demonstrate the unique benefits of atomization and the LOOM Skin System through visual experiments. Our first experiment is on Permeation & Saturation. While we often talk about how the LOOM Skin System drives ingredients deep into the skin, it’s just as important that it penetrates active ingredients into the skin evenly, increasing absorption and permeation. This ensures that essential ingredients reach as many vital skin cells beneath the surface as possible, providing a more effective skincare treatment.

In this experiment, we’ve dyed our LOOM Collagen Peptide Serum pink to make the effects more visible. First, we atomize the dyed serum into a beaker of distilled water. Notice how the water quickly turns pink, demonstrating how permeation is almost immediate when the LOOM Atomizer breaks the serum into tiny particles. This creates thorough and fast saturation, showing how atomized ingredients permeate more effectively into the skin.

Next, we use a dropper to place the serum directly into water. The serum stays clumped together, doesn’t fully mix, and even with stirring, it fails to permeate or saturate the water. This difference is key: The serum, with its thicker viscosity and larger particle size, doesn’t penetrate well—much like with topical application, which sits on the surface rather than permeating into deeper layers.

The LOOM Atomizer overcomes this barrier, enhancing both permeation and coverage, so active ingredients reach and impact the skin cells that need them most.
